2017 Roku 4K Stick+ vs 2016 Roku HD Stick – User Speed Test & Unboxing

I recently got my hands on the new 2017 Roku Stick+ 4K version and decided to do a little unboxing and a head to head with the older 2016 Roku HD Stick. The main question I wanted to answer is would it be worth upgrading. I also wanted to give you an idea of what to expect when it came to using the new Roku Stick+.

Roku 2017 4K Stick+ details:

  • Voice remote with TV power & volume buttons
  • USB power cable with advanced wireless receiver
  • 802.11ac MIMO dual-band wireless
  • HD TVs – Up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) with up-scaling from 720p
  • 4K UHD TVs – Up to 2160p at 60fps (3840 × 2160) with up-scaling from 720p and 1080p
  • Audio feature- DTS Digital Surround™ pass through over HDMI®
  • Remote control
  • Voice remote with TV power and volume buttons

In short, if you don’t have a 4K TV I am not sure I would upgrade. Yet there are a few reasons why I still would. The new 802.11ac WiFi on the stick is a huge step up from the older version. If you suffer from weak WiFi I would spend the money and upgrade.

The second feature that would make me upgrade is the new remote. The buttons are nicer and you can power on and off the TV as well as control the volume. All features that would make me want to upgrade to the new Roku 2017 4K Stick+.
