Cheerful couple cuddling and sitting on the couch watching tv at home in the living room2017 has already been a good year for cord cutters, and it is only getting better as 5 cord cutting services are getting ready to roll out new and better options.

So here are my top 5 cord cutting services to keep your eye on in 2017.

#1 Hulu Downloads

Last month Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins announced that Hulu will be joining Netflix and Amazon Video to offer downloads for offline viewing. Soon you will be able to watch your favorite Hulu movies and TV shows offline.

“It’s something that we’re going be doing in a few months,” Hopkins said. “We’re working hard on the technology around that and getting the rights squared away.”

#2 YouTube Unplugged

It has been known for some time now that Google was working hard to launch a new live TV service to take on the likes of Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, and DIRECTV NOW.

Yet Google has been unusually effective in keeping the details of the service under wraps and little is known about it. The service is expected to launch in 2017.

#3 ESPN Standalone Streaming Service

ESPN is trying to cash in on streaming as its subscriber base continues to shrink by the day. Recently it was confirmed that ESPN will offer a standalone subscription to access sports content online without a cable subscription.

Little is known about this service, and it was reported earlier in 2016 that the service would likely not include live feeds of ESPN, ESPN2… This service will bring new coverage to subscribers.

So if you want live ESPN you will still need a service such as Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, or DIRECTV NOW.

#4 Apple Original Shows

It seems Apple has not fully given up on a video service. Word is Apple is working on creating original shows for its Apple Music service. Little is known and for now it does not seem to be a full-blown Netflix competitor.

Recent comments have suggested that Apple plans to start small and grow its original content over time.

#5 Hulu Live TV

Hulu has long been a great option for next-day shows and a growing catalog of movies. Now Hulu is getting into live TV with deals from groups such as Disney, CBS, and Fox. This service will move to take on the likes of Sling TV.
