This week Amazon announced that they are adding a new benefit, Twitch Prime, to their Prime service. “I’m proud of the result,” said Twitch Chief Executive Emmett Shear. “Not only do you get all Amazon Prime benefits, for no additional cost, you get a bunch of gamer-specific benefits.”

The main benefit of the new Twitch Prime service is 20% off of US hard-copy video games. (Sorry no digital downloads.)

Twitch Prime will also give members access to a premium Twitch channel (a $5 monthly value), and it also offers a selection of several digital vanity items to make the Twitch profile stand out.

Amazon seems to see Twitch as a great way to not only entertain people with its large selection of video game-related shows, videos, concerts, and other lifestyle-type streams but Amazon also sees Twitch as a great way to sell more stuff.

Amazon seems to be a on a roll of adding new options to Prime. Just this week they expanded their reading selection to include more books and added magazines and other publications to Prime. Now with the new Twitch Prime addition it makes Prime look like an even better option than just a streaming service.
