Amazon Start Rolling Out a New User Interface to 1st Gen Fire TVs

The long awaited new Fire TV user interface is finally coming to 1st generation Fire TVs and Fire Sticks. The new 5.2.4.1 software update gives 1st-generation Fire TV and Fire TV Stick owners the all new Fire TV interface to those older devices. This new user interface was released to 2nd-gen devices at the end of last year, and now it is finally coming to the Fire TV 1 and Fire TV Stick 1.

This update was first spotted by AFTVnews.com and according to them is slowly rolling out.

Here is what the new user interface looks like:

Amazon’s Statement on the New Fire TV & Fire Stick OS  from last fall:

Coming later this year, a free software update for Fire TV will give customers a new OS. Fire TV will present a cinematic experience, offering video trailers and content screenshots to help customers access the content they want more quickly—without the need to open and close multiple apps. Finding and enjoying apps and games will be simplified with support for a customizable apps list on the home screen. Accessibility improvements will also be included, allowing customers to use Fire TV and any compatible apps with the VoiceView screen reader. These features will be available for all Fire TV customers as a free, over-the-air update, starting with the new Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and latest generation Fire TV later this year.

YES! We have enjoyed this on our 2nd gen box – and I want it on our 1st gen one as well.

Yeah, finally the old Fire Stick will actually auto update apps again and not have to go through an uninstall/reinstall/sign back in sequence (don’t know if anyone else noticed that but the last 2 updates of the old interface auto-updates didn’t work or at least they didn’t work on either of my devices).
