We just cut to cord a few weeks ago. It was scary to take the plunge, but glad we did. We do miss our local channels, and can’t get them with an antenna (too many trees!) but that is what the interwebs are for 🙂

  • GraySpot

Samurai sliced through the cord two weeks ago. Had ATT U-verse, now have ps vue and antenna for locals. Tivo Roamio OTA for locals DVR. Fire TV for ps vue. As everyone else in the media seems to overlook, I already had amazon prime, netflix, and internet (duh). I’m now saving $111 per month. No, I don’t have 450 channels of garbage anymore… and what a wonderful thing that is.

  • Rich

Started planning to cut the cord over a year ago. Got all my ducks in a row and pulled the plug last summer when my Dish contract expired. Gotta say, it gets easier and better every day.

Now I am working on my friends.

I and my family cut the cord just four years ago (with Netflix and Hulu), having since added Amazon Prime Video and most recently Sling TV. We’re not only never going back to cable, but with recent speed increases by T-Mobile in our area, we’ve dropped our last connection to the cable company (WiFi), and have ‘totally’ cut the cord.

  • one more year and I shall be a cord cutter. already have a few gizmos to help

  • We’ve been cord cutters since 2009. At the time, money was tight and we had two kids in diapers. We found that after a year or so we didn’t miss cable at all! Now we’re so used to mostly ad-free and on-demand content that we’d never switch back!

  • Chrissy Lodato Stalions

Going on almost a year now. Saving so much money!!

  • Sue

I became a Cord Cutter in August 2016. FREEDOM!!!

  • Mike Absher

I am not a Cord Cutter just yet. As the prices are becoming outrageously expensive. I want to become one a 100 percent by getting rid of my Cable TV and Cable Internet. I am on the lowest package for Cable and Internet. I would like to use a digital antenna for my TV and get Internet through my Sprint phone as a hotspot.

  • Rik Deering

I’ve been a cord cutter for a few months and I did it because I was tired of paying so much for so many things I just didn’t use.

I probably cut the cord 8-10 years ago or so, internet was all I needed. Unfortunately it was terrible internet, 1.5Mbps at the time, so I didn’t jump on the netflix bandwagon till they gave me 3.0Mbps in 2010 I think.

I’ve been a cord cutter for right at a year and a half now. It’s been a great experience so far. I really wish I’d done it sooner.

  • dugants193

Love this site! I check it (along with other tech sites) multiple times a day! Thank you Cord Cutters!

  • George Machen

Jesus Christ, how do I stop the barrage of email notifications to this individual thread?!! (without disabling notifications to every other thread elsewhere that I *want* to continue notifications)

  • Lauren

I have been a cord cutter for 8 months now and can not see myself ever going back I love it! I could not have done it without all your blog and you tube reviews. They helped give me the push to get rid of cable. The only thing I miss is FSMIDWEST. The channel is not offered in my area.

  • Brandy Lieser

Second time cord cutting since 2015. First time was in 2008 and it’s so much easier this time!

  • We cut the cord a few years ago and never looked back!

  • Sean Berends

So I was at Walmart the other day and DirectTV had reps there trying to sell DirectTV service. I had the distinct pleasure of letting them know that I am a proud cord cutter!

  • Julie

    Cord cutter since 2009!

  • BklynIlluminati

Cut the cord 2 months ago and have been experimenting with every app available and love it. Still trying to figure out OTA antennas but learning about how to save so much more money is actually kind of fun. I actually am subcontractor to a North East cable company and have been privy to all the evil things they do to their customers that when i learned about how much good programming is available that i made it my goal they get away from them as much as possible

  • Omar B

  • Elle

My cable bills seems to go um every few months. I’d love to cut the cord and save money.

  • search mom

    ty for the giveaway

  • kitbaty

I have been on the fence about cord cutting for years. I am about to pull the trigger if Comcast cannot lower my bill or give me a better rate (no longer in a promotional contract). I am about to get a NVidia Shield and a HDHomeRun Connect and go with PSVue.

  • Marlene Stockard

I am a cord shaver. I reduced my cable down to basic local. I use a Roku Stick to watch Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and CBS All Access. I would love to cut the cord totally, but can’t get good OTA local channels.

  • JackOfAllGames

The contest wants discussion on why we became cord-cutters. Well, I’m more of a cord-never than a cord-cutter. Cable is rarely a compelling offering and I’ve never had it…unless you count something like Sling TV (mostly for Into the Badlands right now). The “cable” lines are getting blurry as time goes on.

In any case, fingers crossed for the Roku and such. ^_^

  • Mike Rucker

Cord Cutter since late 2014 in need of Brand New hardware 🙂

  • Colby Higgs

    Just an awesome giveaway!

  • George Machen

I am being overwhelmed by email notifications. I followed the Disqus instructions to stop notifications of comments to this Cord Cutters article-only by replying with “unsubscribe” at the beginning of the message body, with “unsubscribe” as the email subject, then again with “unsubscribe” as the sole message body content (without quoting the email), both one with and one without the quotation marks. Nothing stops the onslaught of email notifications. HOW DO I MAKE THIS STOP??!!!

  • Abhinav Gupta

I have been looking for an online content tv box…just confused bw nexus player, chromecast and much anticipated ROKU TV.
I really hope to win this, to get the hands on experience of roku player and its amazing online content.

  • Sam Jennifer Musil Lindley

Working on becoming a cord cutter!

  • George Machen

IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, WILL SOMEBODY TELL ME HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE TO THIS GODFORSAKEN THREAD? (and only this thread, not all the other Disqus threads elsewhere to which I want to remain subscribed)
    1) Following the instructions in the notification emails to reply with “unsubscribe” doesn’t work.
    2) This thread’s moderator gave me a generic Disqus support link with instructions that contradict the aforementioned ones in the notification emails, and when I asked him exactly where the button is to click (see attached image), he flew the coop and is nowhere to be found. I don’t think he knows how to unsubscribe.
Can anyone please tell me how?

  • Cut the cord.

My setup: SlingTV, Plex for local media, and Plex DVR for OTA recordings. Saving a ton of money! Once I saw that Plex DVR was nearly flawless, I was able to cut the cord on that TiVo sub as well!

  • Darrel

I would like this prize package because Sling TV app seems to run better on the latest generation of Roku than it does on Roku2.
