Hulu Adds Support for Alexa Voice Commands

A few weeks ago Hulu announced that you will soon be able to use your voice to control Hulu on Amazon Echo and Fire TV devices. Today Hulu updated their Fire TV apps to now support Alexa voice commands. By simply pairing a Fire TV and an Echo device, users will be able to ask Alexa to perform an array of actions on their TV including pause, rewind, fast-forward and start watching favorite titles and channels.

“This is an extremely exciting time in the world of digital voice assistants. Voice capabilities are exploding due, in large part, to leaders in the space like Amazon opening their doors to 3rd-party developers, creating endless voice-driven possibilities. We are particularly fired up about how these technologies will simplify TV viewing. That’s why we are very happy to announce today that, beginning this Fall, Hulu will be among the first 3rd-party entertainment services to support Amazon’s digital voice assistant, Alexa.” Said Richard Irving VP of Product for Hulu.

Here are some of the voice commands you will be able to use:

for video on demand try commands like:

  • “Alexa, watch The Handmaid’s Tale”
  • “Alexa, watch The Mindy Project”

If you have a Hulu with Live TV you can try:

  • “Alexa, go to ESPN”
  • “Alexa, watch FOX”

Be curious to see how this works. Right no go to and watch open apps. With Vue, tune to changes channels. Also watch a show is frustrating because it always pulls up episode 1ofseason 1 and not in the specific app.

I purchased the FireTV and paired it with Alexa for my husband who is visually impaired, we were so happy he could watch tv by himself, but lo and behold it didn’t work for him. It took him to the show he wanted to watch but season 1 episode 1 not the last episode. Being not able to see he could not go to his last episode seen. Chromecast paired with Google Home worked better but at the present time they have a very limited number of (networks?) they only have Netflix and CBS All acess, but a lot on the horizon. They are all getting better so I’ll keep trying. Good luck to you all.
