this is rather dumb, but did a channel lineup comparison on their site, and actually the Mankato CBS is more local than the Twin Cities one for us, but still looks like I’d only get the Cities CBS…….looked up a Mankato zip for the giggles though, and yeah sure enough they’d get KEYC…….

Hulu live tv disappointed and i cancelled it so fast. Only two days into the trial. They’ve got the worst interface and their DVR isn’t really a DVR. The fact that they don’t have AMC Networks and Viacom didn’t help them either

    • Bryan Esler

No streaming service has a “true” DVR like you’re used to with cable. All pretty much use the same type of thing. You add a show or episode to your favorites, it records it. My guess is AMC will come before the Walking Dead starts back up though; they’ve received a ton of requests for that.

Viacom is anyone’s guess. DirecTV Now is the only service that has all their stations (Sling only has some). Viacom is playing hardball and are stuck in the year 2000 with how they think of streaming.

      • Sunny Rain

By true DVR, I’m talking about the ability to fast forward. It doesn’t matter whether it’s on the cloud or not.

        • Bryan Esler

I do agree that they should allow FF without paying $15 extra. It’s a bit ridiculous. Though, if you pay for the commercials-free Hulu (which is $4 extra), most of the shows have no ads. The only ones that DO have ads are those that aren’t a part of the standard Hulu library; i.e. live events and some shows. Most of what I watch, I’ve found, are commercial-free because of the $4 extra I pay.

          • Sunny Rain

I can probably tolerate the ads but for now the deal isn’t good enough without more channels. I know Viacom is hard to get but if they got it, they’d be better off. No excuse for not getting AMC though.

It’s nice that these streaming services like Hulu will add more affiliates for folks with possible OTA transmission problems, but in my case, having affiliates doesn’t affect me because I have great OTA capabilites. I would be more impressed with the addition of important channels like AMC. I would also be more impressed with more of an Al La Carte system for even more lower prices. I only watch around 15 cable channels on a consistent basis. A&E, AMC, BBCA, CBNC, Freeform, FX, FXX, History, IFC, Science, SYFY, TBS, TNT, USA. There are a few other channels that I will watch, but on a less frequent basis, so they aren’t as important to me, and I’m sure that other people have their various choices and favorites. I would like to see where services offered 5 choce packages to where you could select 5 normal channels, and in my case, I would have to purchase at least 3 of these packages. Of course, premium channels (HBO,Showtime, and so forth) would be excluded and sold separately. However, that would be an ideal world and probably never happen.

    • Bryan Esler

A La Carte will most likely never happen. And if it does, it’ll be a while, and it’ll be expensive. Canada implement a la carte options, and you’re paying between $5 and $10 per station. That’s insane. At that point, after you get 10 stations, you’re paying the average price of a cable bill. No thanks!

I do think AMC stations will come soon (they own BBCA, too). Hopefully before Walking Dead is back on.

Locals mean nothing to me since I go OTA. What I’m waiting for is a Fire TV app for the Hulu live TV, or am I missing it. Right now PlayStation Vue wins out over Sling for my interests, mostly sports and number of streams, but the Hulu lineup would win out in non-NFL season since it comes with Hulu as well, if they just had a Fire TV app.

    • Nathan John Ganiere

spose to be coming over the summer for Fire TV from what I’ve read elsewhere so should be coming out within a month or two………..

  • brewcrew87

Woah. The first OTT service with a Madison, WI local!!! Never thought the day would come. Now if only DTVN gets some too… At least this shows that WISC 3 is willing to take a look at OTT services.

Great news for so many cities, but San Diego still waiting ABC and CBS….
