Hulu’s New Live TV Service Has Started Beta Testing on a New Device

It looks like Hulu is getting close to adding one more device to its new Hulu app and live TV streaming service. Currently, Hulu supports Apple TV, Xbox One, Chromecast, and Fire TV with its new app.

Now Cord Cutters News has confirmed that Hulu has started beta testing the new app and live TV streaming service on Roku streaming players.

Here is an image of the new Hulu app running on a Roku streaming Player:We have seen the app running, and it is similar to the new apps you will find on the Fire TV and Xbox One. For now we do not have any video to share of the new Hulu live TV app running, but if you want to know what it looks like the following video shows the new Hulu app and live TV service running on the Fire TV:

Update: Hulu has confirmed that they have rolled out a beta test for Roku streaming players.

Hulu has not listed any roll out time for the new live TV streaming service and new Hulu app to be added to Roku streaming players, but it did say it will “continue to roll out to more devices soon.” So what does soon mean? Currently, the new Hulu app on Roku is in closed public testing with hand picked testers.

We will have to wait and find out, but it looks like it is well on its way to releasing a new Roku channel.

If Hulu can add the NFL Network and Discovery channels, they will beat everyone else out there in a heart beat.

      This.

    • Kirk Sharrar

      AMC

  • Sam Huffman

    Is the update already out?

  • GMan524

What are they waiting for? Roku is the most popular streaming device. Get it right and get it on soon.

    • Aaron & Joy McBroom

The Roku API is clunky and lacking, thus why it is usually the last to get comparable versions of more advanced UI’s. Popular or not, it’s a pain to do app dev on it.

  • Michele Piper-Cassell

I know there will be a lot of complaints some people don’t like change.

    • Pebo Bryson

exactly, the “get off my lawn” crowd will be out in full force

  • Micheal Kirke

Once Hulu comes out on Roku and the UI is changed, I will be watching Hulu on my Blu Ray player, which will keep the old UI.

  • Darren Bratton

I tried the new app on Firestick but personally I prefer the old version…to each his own…

  • Les Prouty

I’m one of the beta testers and it’s been on my Roku stick for several weeks. It’s working pretty well. Every now and then the live viewing will sort of pause and catch up. But overall good.

Any idea how to get the BETA or if not already chosen just wait till its out?

      • Les Prouty

I was sent an email by Hulu not long after I signed up back in early June. I would go to their website and send a message asking to be a tester. Of course you have to be a paying customer I assume.

        • Sam Huffman

What email could you use? I would love to be a tester for Roku.

          • Les Prouty

Sam actually I am beta testing for Hulu Live. After I signed up for Hulu Live I got an email from them asking if I wanted to be in the beta program. That link above I posted might get you in.

          • Sam Huffman

Oh okay! I currently have Hulu Live and would like to get it on my Roku

Stop posting this useless link. All of Hulu Live is in Beta. This link does not gain one access to Roku beta testing.

          • Les Prouty

Thanks Stupid. But you’re wrong. Some of us were invited to be a beta tester other than just being a consumer using a beta app. 🙂

          • Don’t Be Stupid, Stupid

            Not fair!

Seriously though, if one is signed up for Hulu beta app already, this link does not provide any additional avenue for becoming apart of the closed beta program.

          • Les Prouty

Oh well. I thought when I posted it that it had a way to send a message asking to be part of the testing. In my case, I just seemingly randomly got an email invite. There’s no real advantage as far as I can tell. Overall, I do like Hulu Live though.

          Thank you sire!

    • Vegas Steve

Hey Les, is the interface the ‘new’ interface we’ve seen (and most don’t like)? Or is it more “Roku-like”? Thanks!

      • Les Prouty

Steve the beta version looks just like the Hulu Live version not beta. I too am still trying to learn how to best navigate it. But I can’t really figure out how I would change it to be able to do all that is available in Hulu.

        • Vegas Steve

Thanks Les, appreciate the quick update. I’m hoping by the time I want to check out Hulu Live, they will have made it easier to navigate.

think this is old news but yeah patiently been waiting for this on ROKU, did start using it on Fire TV, kinda buggy at times why I guess it’s Beta, but does the job I guess…….

I have been rooting for Hulu, because of how much it seems to have that I enjoy for myself…. Except that Hulu just doesn’t have the AMC channel. If Hulu would strike a deal with AMC, then I would jump on the chance to actually try out Hulu Live. For right now, I’ll stick with Sling. The upside with Sling is AMC and a channel grid, the only downside for me with Sling is 50 hours of DVR and buffering.
