Netflix May Move Up Release of Orange Is The New Black Season 5 After Hack

Netflix may be looking at rushing out season 5 of Orange Is The New Black after a hacker posted the first 10 episodes online this weekend. Currently Netflix plans to release all 13 episodes of Orange Is The New Black season 5 in early June, but that may have changed.

In late 2016 a hacker broke into Larson Studios, a company that Netflix and other networks use. At the time of the hack the final three episodes had not been completed so the hacker did not get access to them.

In a statement Friday, Netflix said: “We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved.”

The question now is will Netflix follow through on its plans to wait until June to release the full season. There are reports that talks are going on high up at Netflix to release it now in an effort to diminish the damages.

The version released on torrents is likely not the final version. Often some of the biggest changes to shows come in the post-production stage. So Netflix may not even be ready for a public release of Orange Is The New Black and may have to rush some editing to get it ready for release.

The hacker is also claiming to have unreleased shows from ABC, FOX, Nat Geo, and IFC.

Just to be clear: Netflix was not hacked, and your personal information was not accessed. The hack happened at a company Netflix and others uses to edit their shows. So no need to worry about your personal information.

The title of this “article” is misleading and conjecture. Netflix has no where commented about potentially releasing the season before the originally planned date.

I doubt the leak will really hurt Netflix anyhow, the people who are gong to pirate the show likely wouldn’t sign up for Netflix if they aren’t already subscribers. Not like this is the series premiere of a hot new show and since they don’t rely on ad revenue they aren’t losing out there either.

Also it was reported the hacker/s are trying to extort money from Netflix and the other networks and none have paid them so they must not be worried about it that much. I could be 100% wrong but it feels like a covert marketing stunt to gain interest in the shows, seeing as it was varitiy who 1st reported the story even giving major details about the hacker that most of the time they do not know about.

I was thinking the same thing. People who will pirate the content will do so no matter what the release date is and are unlikely to sign up for Netflix for any reason.

Not completely true. People who are ardent fans of the show will pirate it because they are anxious to watch it after the previous season’s cliffhanger not necessarily because they can’t pay.

I’m more curious about what the other supposed shows the hacker has.
