Yesterday we finally got our first detailed look at two new Fire TV devices coming from Amazon. Not only are we getting a new Fire TV box but we are also getting a 4K Fire TV stick.

Amazon has not officially issued any statement on the new devices, but AFTVnews did publish a lot of details yesterday.

So the following is what we know.

The 4K Fire TV Stick

The new Fire TV Stick (I use the term loosely) is a lot like a Chromecast with a permanently attached HDMI cable. This new stick will not replace the current HD 2nd gen Fire TV stick but will be a new middle point in the Fire TV lineup.

There will only be an attached HDMI cable and a micro USB port for power on this Fire TV.

The 3rd Generation Fire TV Box

The 3rd gen Fire TV box is a different device from the current 2nd gen Fire TV. Gone is the familiar square Fire TV box. This new Fire TV has 4K HD and the look of an oversized Amazon Dot.

The new 3rd gen Fire TV has a built-in Amazon Alexa with all the buttons of an Amazon Echo Dot and a built-in speaker for voice commands. There is even an IR emitter that will likely work similarly to a Harmony Hub allowing the Fire TV to control other devices.

Pricing

Again we have no official word but Elias from AFTVnews, the site that broke this news, says he expects the new 4K stick to be priced between $60 and $80. The new 3rd gen Fire TV box is reportedly going to cost over $100.

Release Date

No official date has been set but reports suggest that it is likely just a few weeks away. Recently Amazon discontinued the 2nd gen Fire TV and the stock currently at stores will likely be the last shipment of the 2nd gen Fire TV.

So what do you think? Will you upgrade to the new Fire TV players? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
