Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV service

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV serviceThe question of why people decide to cut the cord and break free from high overpriced cable TV bills has been around for years. Many so-called experts try to offer us a wide range of reasons, so we decided to ask our readers what they thought.

We surveyed our readers and a little over 1,000 of them answered the survey. Maybe to no one’s surprise 84.4% of our readers canceled cable because of the high cost; however, the interesting answers didn’t stop there.

Many cord cutters point to commercials as a big reason, but only 1.6% said that was the main reason they cut the cord. It often seems that the freedom from commercials is something many cord cutters discover after they become cord cutters.

What may shock some is 8.5% of our readers said they did not get enough use out of cable TV to justify the cost. As many have pointed to the fact that American viewing habits are changing. Although that seems to be the case it is only driving a small fraction of cord cutters to ditch their overpriced cable TV bills.

So next time you hear a talking head trying to tell cord cutters why they became a cord cutter remember this survey. These are cord cutters telling you why they became cord cutters.
