Review: Winegard Elite 70-Mile HD Antenna

As over-the-air TV grows so does the race to offer the best antenna possible. Now Winegard is stepping up their game with their new Winegard Elite 70-mile HD antenna.

This is the most powerful antenna Winegard has ever made with a 70-mile range, an aggressive VHF and UHF antenna built into one, and an embedded amplifier with clear circuit technology for the best possible image.

Winegard was nice enough to send Cord Cutters News a review unit to test. You can find the full video review on YouTube here:

Now the Winegard Elite 70-mile HD antenna performance was consistent with all other antennas we tested in this price range; however, we had one issue during the assembly: part of the antenna broke off as we tried to screw it together. (You can see the broken part in the YouTube video.)

Even with that part of the antenna not attached, we still received clear HD images consistent with what we expected to see. We reached out to Winegard for comment.

According to Winegard we overtightened the screw popping out the spacer during assembly. This raised concerns on our part about the antenna’s ability to withstand high winds. To address these concerns Winegard shared photos with Cord Cutters News showing the Winegard Elite antenna withstanding 100 mile per hour winds during wind tunnel tests.

Final Thoughts

The Winegard Elite is a great antenna with excellent reception. Our only concern was the quality of build after seeing the antenna break with a normal amount of pressure being applied to tighten a screw.

Yet Winegard stands firmly behind the quality of their antenna and offers a 30-day return policy on new antennas.

If you are a Winegard fan or are looking at the new Elite antenna, you will find an antenna with excellent reception.
