#1 Stop Renting Your Modem

Modem rental bills from many ISPs are as high as $12 a month, which can add up to as much as $144 a year! Stop paying that monthly bill by buying your own modem. Some modems sell for as little as $60 on Amazon.

Some states, such as Texas, even tax your modem rental adding $2 a month to your rental bill.

Need a modem? Here is our short list of cable modems that work for different cable services.

#2 More Ways to Save Money as an Amazon Prime Member

Prime members love their free two-day (and now in some areas one-day) shipping. The addition of free movies, TV shows, and music are just a nice benefit on top of that; however, did you know Prime members can save money with Amazon Subscribe and Save?

With Amazon Subscribe & Save, you can sign up for Amazon to auto deliver items you use every day. The best part is you will save an extra 5% to 15% off the already low Amazon price. My family saves over $600 every year with Subscribe & Save over shopping at Walmart. (You can learn more about that HERE.)

#3 Ditch Your Cellphone Provider

I had been a Verizon subscriber since they became Verizon; however, our bill kept increasing because my wife went over her 2 GB plan, and they wouldn’t let us change plans or I would lose my unlimited data.

So we ditched Verizon, and our bill went down by $70 a month when we switched to a prepaid service that uses the Verizon network and has far better customer service.

You can learn how we switched cellphone providers and saved $70 a month HERE.

#4 Ditch Your Home Phone Provider

The good news is you can do everything your home phone would do without the need to pay for a home phone. Need a fax service? We got you covered. Need a home phone for work? Try Ooma or Magic Jack. Both are a fraction of the cost of bundled services.

#5 Make a Budget (Great Marriage Advice Also)

If there is any tip I hope you take from this post it’s the make a budget tip. Not only was making a budget a big part of us becoming cord cutters, but it was a big part in how my wife and I paid off much of our debt. (Nothing feels better than paying off debt.)

So how does it help your marriage? One of the main reasons people get divorced in the United States is money related. To help avoid conflict over money, I recommend creating a budget.

I highly recommend The Financial Peace Planer: A Step-by-Step Guide to Restoring Your Family’s Financial Health. You will find great worksheets and guides on how to make a budget. The best part is this one is only $10.71 on Amazon.

Hopefully these tips have helped you save some money. Do you have a tip to save even more money? Post it in the comments and let everyone know.
