Sling TV Adds Six New Channels

Late last week Sling TV quietly added six new channels to a variety of packages.

The following channels were added:

  • DocuBox HD
  • FightBox HD
  • FashionBox HD
  • Fast&FunBox HD
  • 360TuneBox
  • NatureVision TV

It appears that Sling TV has added FashionBox, DocuBox, 360TuneBox, and NatureVision TV to its Englishi Bonus Pack (for international customers); FightBox and Fast&FunBox are now part of its World Sports package; and DocuBox and FightBox (with Polish audio) are part of Sling TV’s Polish Mosaic pack.

Although these may not be the most well-known channels in the United States these channels seem to be more focused on its international customers. Part of this may have to do with the fact that Comcast will soon add Sling TV to its X1 platform on its cable boxes.

It may seem strange for Comcast to put Sling TV on cable boxes; however, it opens up Comcast customers to international packages that Comcast does not currently offer. So it appears that Sling TV is beefing up its international lineup in an effort to attract more Comcast subscribers.

“SPI/FILMBOX Channels Group is excited to expand its channel portfolio on Sling TV” Stacey Sobel, executive VP of SPI International, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to adding new channels in the future in order to serve both English-language and ethnic audiences.”

They need to offer Fox News and Fox Business Network in their news package and forget adding junk like these 6 stations.

Junk is in the eye of the beholder. I can see a viable audience for this.
However, that said, the SLING users would be better served, as a whole, if this were an add on package and not part of the base.
The audience for these is quite a bit narrower of a demographic. I would rather see this as a cheap add on package rather than cluttering up – and being subsidized by – the main base viewership. The base should be a broader demographic in an effort to maximize user satisfaction while giving the majority of the audience what they want to see.
There needs to be fewer “channels added for the sake of channels being added”.
      More is not always more.
      Quality over quantity is preferred.

I didn’t even know any of these channels existed. If they have audiences, they probably get less than 20K viewers for premieres. So, to most people, they’re junk.

Sling should focus on adding popular channels first.

        • Rich

That was my point. Some people – a few – might find this a good addition.
Most see it as “junk” as you say. I would rather pay for a base package of show that have a broader appeal. Specialty interests, Movies, Sports, Lifestyle, etc. can be relatively cheap add-ons. That way we come closer to what all viewers really want: essentially ala carte programming. You pay for what you want and not a lot of extra fluff.

          • supervolt

Exactly, that would be the best approach – to have all the basic popular stuff first, then special interests as add-ons.

Go look up Pluto TV…a lot of these channels are free.

ive been with sling since it started. gave up sling as soon as DTVN went online. ive been holding onto sling for almost two years hoping that the discovery channels (discovery, destination america, science, animal planet, etc…) would be added.

after two years, still no discovery channels but here is sling adding a bunch of channels i do not care for or have heard of. how did both vue and DTVN able to include the discovery channels as part of a tier and sling not?

          • supervolt

It’s messed up. It gets even worse when the licensing prevents certain channels from being viewed on certain platforms/devices…. which is very common with DirecTV Now.

      • GersonT1000

I agree with you on the concept, but that is actually what Sling is doing in this case. These channels will only show up for people who have the International English, Polish or World Sports packages.

  • Barry Sullivan

How about adding the Velocity channel?

  • supervolt

Adding junk channels to sound like they have a lot of channels. Real Mature.

    • Luke Bouma

These are international channels in their internal packages so likely not aimed at you.

      • Mjal

A lot of these channels are already available on Pluto TV for free.

  • Chris K.

Are these even actual channels? Or just online content presented as a “channel?”

  • Wow! I am anxiously awaiting the ‘Live Eagle Nest Webcam’ channel. Upvote please! Yours Truly // Syr Kazum

  • Skeptikal

Give me Nbc, cbs, abc and fox, dammit!

  • Max Chaos

    Was hoping for Discovery Networks.

    • Chris Wuzabby

I’ve checked out Vue,DirecTV now and sling. DirecTV now by far has a better selection as well as having fixed the issues it had upon launch

  • Kathleen Vaughn

Comcast seems to have their fingers in everyone’s pot…..

  • Mjal

NatureVision is available for free on Pluto TV as is many of Sling’s other channels (Newsy, Cheddar, RT America).

  • Behinder

This Is really surprising they add polish audio channels

  • ftyjyry

Will it be possible to not have these channels or does that cost more? Maybe we could bundle them and trade for Discovery channel?
