So When Will We Get a New Apple TV 5?

AppleTVOne of the most common questions we get right now about the Apple TV . Many wonder whether there will be a new Apple TV 5 or a major update to the current Apple TV.

A Brief History of the Apple TV

The first Apple TV was released on January 9, 2007, and it cost a whopping $299. Three years later the second Apple TV was released on September 1, 2010. Two years later the third Apple TV was released on March 7, 2012. The current Apple TV was released more than 3.5 years later on October 30, 2015.

Looking at this history, a new Apple TV comes our every 2 to 3 years. There have also been no leaks about a new Apple TV, which leaves us to believe that it is unlikely that a new Apple TV will hit markets before Christmas 2016. Typically by now factories in China begin building the Apple TV and leaks start to happen if it were to hit before Christmas.

Any Hope At All?

There is one possible sign of a new Apple TV 5 this year. Walmart and a few other stores have recently put the current Apple TV on sale, marking it down as much as $50 at some points. This has left some to wonder if they are trying to clear out stock; however, there has also been word that Apple is disappointed with the sales of the current Apple TV, and they may be trying to move more units before their fiscal year ends on September 24, 2016.

I lean on the side that Apple is trying to increase sales before the September 24 deadline to help their stock price.

So What Do We Think Will Happen?

After looking at everything I think it is unlikely that we will get a new Apple TV this year; however, we could see a major update to the software.  Unlike with hardware, there are fewer people involved with a software update making it easier to hide from the public.
