HBO and Netflix have been battling on the field of streaming for a year now. Many would consider Game of Thrones to be one of the best shows on TV, but according to Morgan Stanley HBO may have to step aside as the premier service for original content.
A recent study conducted by Morgan Stanley looked at who has the most popular original content, and Netflix won by a substantial margin.
Other top competitors include Amazon Prime Instant and Showtime. Hulu, Starz, Cinemax, Encore, and Epix all also received votes in the survey.
What is increasingly evident is many of the best shows on TV are not on cable. Some of the most popular shows on TV, such as House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, are only on Netflix . . .
As more cable subscribers get streaming services, it is a foot in the door to their online TV viewing. As they use streaming services to watch some of the most popular shows on TV, they are more likely to ditch cable as they learn more about streaming.
This growth of great original content online is an opportunity to spread cord cutting. As more great shows move online so will cable subscribers…
