Update: The Past & the Future of Cord Cutters News

Cord Cutters News started about five years ago as a way to offer one place for all the cord cutting news out there. Back when I launched the site, there was no Sling TV or PlayStation Vue. Cord cutting was still being reported in the news as something that was not real.

Quickly the site found a following and took off. I am always grateful for the supporters and everyone who sends us a kind note. It makes all the hard work worth it.

From there we have seen crazy growth and have helped millions of people become cord cutters. Now we are moving forward to help even more people as cord cutting picks up speed.

So why post these monthly updates? Well, I view Cord Cutters News as a community with many great members. From everyone who reads and shares the stories to members who leave comments and are a member of our social media. I am very thankful for your support and wanted to give you a quick update on what is happening at Cord Cutters News.

So let’s take a look at the future of Cord Cutters News.

The Website

For months now we have been putting bandages on the servers to help handle the growing traffic the site is seeing. In October we decided the time had come to stop just trying to keep up with the growth and to buy a new, dedicated server that can handle the traffic going forward.

We purchased a 16 core processor, 64 GBs of RAM, and an SSD dedicated server. We have already seen noticeable site performance improvement. We have also brought in some help to clean up the code of the site and help make the performance smoother.

Hopefully this will handle our growth for some time. Recently I learned how expensive website hosting is. One hosting company quoted us up to $4,000 a month to host the site. Thankfully we found a less expensive option.

New YouTube Show

In October we launched a new weekly cord cutting show on YouTube to give you my personal opinion on the week’s biggest cord cutting stories. I’m still not sure if we will be going live on Thursdays or Fridays every week. For now our weekly cord cutting recap show is in beta, but the early feedback has been positive.

So if you want to know my personal thoughts on the week’s biggest cord cutting stories, check out my weekly recap show for now tentatively called “Cord Cutting This Week.” (Maybe Cord Cutting Recap? I’m not sure what name I like yet.)

YouTube Improvements

We heard your feedback loud and clear that the quality of our streams could be better. So I invested in new lighting and a better camera for our YouTube videos and live streams.

My goal is to help use YouTube to show more people how they can save money and still watch their favorite shows. So keep an eye out for more YouTube videos rolling out.

Cord Cutting Q&A

Our weekly Cord Cutting Q&A show has been a huge hit seeing steady growth. To help address that we have made a few minor changes.

First, the show is now just on YouTube. We used to streaming it live on Facebook and YouTube, but we received a growing number of complaints about Facebook video issues. It seems to have been an issue with us trying to stream the show on two services at once. Now I will only have one chat to follow, which will help reduce the number of missed questions.

Hopefully over the next few weeks everyone who followed us on Facebook will find us on YouTube. We will be sharing the link on all of our social media.

Looking Forward to 2018

I have huge plans for 2018 to help make cord cutting easier. From start to finish we want to make it as easy as possible to become a cord cutter.

For now I don’t want to go into detail about the future plans, but here are a few things we are working on.

We are once again going to the 2018 CES (Consumers Electronics Show) and NAB (National Association of Broadcasters). Getting the most from cord cutting means knowing what is happening in the world of cord cutting. By going to some of the biggest shows in the field, we hope to give you an inside look into the future of cord cutting.

That is just a fraction of what I have planned for 2018, so keep an eye on the site for more and better things to come.

If you would like to help CCN, consider visiting the site without using ad blockers or donating $1 a month through our Patreon. That amount may not seem like much, but it really adds up.

Thank you for your support. Never could I have dreamed that this site would become so big.
