Netflix customers are reporting shockingly long waits for DVDs rentals. On everything from new releases to movies that have been out for years.

Wait times
The current theory for the cause of the longer wait times is that Netflix is ordering fewer DVDs in preparation of canceling the service. Many people also believe Netflix is not replacing damaged discs of older titles. What ever the answer may be clearly Netflix has a smaller DVD inventory now than it did in the past.

Customers are also complaining to Netflix and are receiving vague answers about what is causing the long wait times for DVDs. Rumors are to expect a announcement that Netflix will cancel DVDs to come with in the next few months.

Netflix has yet to comment on whether or not the company is phasing out DVDs.

If Netflix cancels DVD we would expect to see a announcement about a larger streaming library. Currently many big titles and cult classics are only available on DVD. Disney is one of the blockbuster studios that are only available on DVDs for many of their big movies.

Redbox would be the big winner here if Netflix cancels DVD but we hope the consumer will benefit from a larger library of content to stream.
