There’s something comforting about cuddling up on the couch for some TV time with a furry friend. The unconditional love, the wet kisses, those puppy dog eyes… in fact 40% of pet owners say they prefer watching TV with their dog over their kids, friends, or even a significant other. With streaming time experiencing a rise ever since the pandemic, more people are staying home and spending time in front of their TV. Luckily, dogs are always game for being a watch buddy.

The fun people at Rover.com recently used Pollfish to survey 1000 dog owners and found out that more than half of them say they wait for their pet to come into the room before starting their show. After all, sharing is caring.

When it comes to streaming, it turns out dogs and humans may have more in common than we think.

Our pooches love watching TV almost as much as we do.

Turns out 80% of dog owners say their pet actively watches or reacts to what’s happening on the screen. This could include barking, tilting their heads, or acting as though the animals on the screen are real.

Dogs have favorite shows too

Of the pet owners surveyed, 60% say their dog has a favorite show. Some of the responses include Animal Planet, Wonder Woman, Euphoria, and Game of Thrones. What can we say? They have good taste.

They like to be comfy

Pet parents are all about making sure their dog is comfortable while binge-watching with 70% saying they let their dog on the couch with them, pull their dog’s bed in front of the TV, or let their pet hog the blankets.

Snacks in front of the TV are a must

Just like you, it apparently dogs like to snack while watching their favorite shows. While it might not be a bowl of popcorn or pint of Ben & Jerry’s, 72% of dog parents say their furry friend typically gets a special treat during the show. Some of the most popular snacks include biscuits, bones, and other doggy treats.

The bottom line is, dogs make for great TV buddies. They don’t judge you for how many hours you binge (3 hours on average), in fact they’ll be happier the longer you’re on the couch with them. So kick back with your furry friend and turn on some Game of Thrones, and don’t forget the snacks!
