Over the last three years, Sling TV has slowly been adding new features to make the service even better. Yet after talking with many new and old subscribers, I was shocked at how many did not know everything Sling TV has to offer. So, I want to point out some of the best Sling TV features I think most subscribers should take advantage of. If you are a long-time Sling TV subscriber, you may already know these options. Yet with the rapid growth of cord cutting we hope this post helps new subscribers learn how to get the most out of Sling TV.

Here are my top 5 tips to help you get the most from Sling TV:

À La Carte TV

So, you have Sling TV but want to add other services like CuriosityStream? Good news! Now you can subscribe to multiple services and use Sling TV as one app to access them and manage payments for them.

You can add these channels just like you would with any Sling TV add-on through the settings on your Sling TV app. These services include Up Faith & Family, Showtime, and more.

Parental Controls

Have kids? Good news, Sling TV has very powerful parental controls that will let you block programming based on rating. You can also block them from renting movies through the Sling TV app.

When you set up parental controls on Sling TV, you will be able to create a PIN. This PIN can be used to get around the parental blocks, so you can still watch the shows you want to see.

Limit Bandwidth

Do you have a data cap? Sling TV gives you the ability to limit the bandwidth the service uses. This means it will use less data per hour letting you stream more using less data. Also, if you are experiencing a lot of buffering, especially on mobile devices, turning down the quality can help improve mobile streaming.

You can find the Sling TV bandwidth settings inside your account settings under Connection.

Protect Recordings

One of the great features of Sling TV is the ability to save your DVRed recordings for as long as you want. Did you appear on TV? Or do you really want to save a show? Now with Sling TV you can protect your recordings, so they won’t be deleted.

In the My DVR section, click on the recording you want to save. There, you will see an option to protect it. By clicking on that option your recording should be protected from removal.

Pay-Per-View

Want to see that big pay-per-view fight? With Sling TV you can do just that without having to create a second account on some other service. Even if you are not a Sling TV customer, you can buy pay-per-view events, so you never miss the big fight.

Bonus: Favorite Shows

Have a show you just love and want to have quick access to? Now when you go to a show’s page you can favorite the show by clicking on the heart. It will add the show to your My TV page under favorites. That means you can quickly jump to that show’s page to find all the on-demand content currently available for that show.
