Apple TV + LogoApple is building the library of original programming on their streaming service, this time bringing the story behind the Beastie Boys to the Apple TV+ audience.

Beastie Boys Story will premiere in IMAX theaters on April 3 before being available to stream exclusively on Apple TV+.

Here’s what Apple says about the upcoming documentary.

Here’s a little story they’re about to tell… Coming April 24, Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz share the story of their band and 40 years of friendship in a live documentary experience by friend, collaborator, and their former grandfather, Spike Jonze.

The Beastie Boys shared the news on their Twitter account Sunday night.

“There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order. Spike is one of those friends,” Diamond and Horovitz said in a statement. “And even when you don’t recognize anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table. Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out… then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children.”

“I owe Beastie Boys a lot,” Jonze responded. “One time, they pulled me out of a burning ship, and another time they helped me cheat on my college exam to get into Florida State. So, it was a real privilege to get to reunite with them and help them tell their story.”

Looking forward to the documentary? Apple shared a sneak peek with a trailer on their YouTube page.

The documentary will be available on Apple TV+ beginning April 24. You can subscribe to Apple TV+ for $4.99/month after a 7 day free trial.
