HBO Max is getting a new series based on the upcoming film The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. The series will be a spinoff focusing on storylines with the Gotham City Police Department. The series hasn’t been given an official name yet, and there’s no word on when the first season will premiere. We do know that the storyline will be set in the same world as Matt Reeve’s The Batman with Reeves and Dylan Clark heading up production.
The series will reportedly “build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City” and “further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham,” with the goal of launching a “new Batman universe across multiple platforms.”
With The Batman film not set to hit theaters until October 2021, it’s only logical the HBO Max spinoff series won’t premiere any time before that since it will have a better chance at gaining fans who’ve already had a look into the world where Robert Pattinson is Bruce Wayne, However, it doesn’t sound like Pattinson himself will be making an appearance as a series cast member.
HBO Max is really trying to build up the DC aspect of its library, luring in comic fans with new releases like The Snyder Cut of The Justice League that’s set to be released next year. It’s a great angle to play on HBO Max’s part – capitalize on what competitors can’t supply and pull in subscribers.
