For years millions of rural Americans have dreamed of having fast, affordable internet options. Now with fixed wireless services, their dream is slowly becoming a reality.

One of the companies rolling out fixed wireless is Windstream. Windstream is offering 25 Mbps down for $50 a month or 100 Mbps down for $70 a month. The best part is Windstream does not have a data cap on their service.

Windstream is not using 5G but it is similar. With Windstream fixed wireless you no longer need to run a physical line to every home in a town—something that can take months or years. Instead, in a fraction of the time of wiring each home in a town a fixed wireless service like Windstream can have 100 Mbps down the internet for a full town.

Currently, Windstream is available in parts of Oklahoma and Iowa. According to the company, the plan is to roll out to an additional 34 communities in Iowa by the end of 2019.

Windstream is not the only company working on this. A growing list of fixed wireless and 5G services are rolling out from companies like AT&T. All with the goal to bring new internet options to rural America.
