Amazon Fire Users Could Lose HBO Access at the End of July

The launch of HBO Max had one major flaw – the app wasn’t available on Roku or Amazon Fire devices. Those viewers were left with the HBO Now app with a much smaller content library.

Recently, WarnerMedia announced that the HBO Go app will be retired at the end of this month. At the same time, HBO Now will be rebranded to HBO.

“Now that HBO Max has launched and is widely distributed, we can implement some significant changes to our app offering in the U.S.,” the company said in a statement when the announcement was made. “Most customers who have traditionally used HBO Go to stream HBO programming are now able to do so via HBO Max.”

WarnerMedia’s deal for keeping the HBO Now app on Fire TV devices expires on July 31, reports Variety. The plan was for current HBO Now subscribers to transition to HBO Max, giving them more content for the same price, and taking away the need for the HBO Now app. Unfortunately, the HBO Max app still isn’t available on Fire TV devices. That means that when the HBO Now deal ends, Fire TV users won’t have a standalone HBO app for their devices.

If you’re a Fire TV user, you’ll still be able to access HBO content through Prime Video.
