Just when you thought the Netflix phenomenon was over, Amazon is getting its own piece of the Tiger Kingdom. Amazon has announced that a scripted series about Tiger King, with Nicolas Cage signed on to star as Joe Exotic is in development.

Variety first reported on the project, which will be based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad. The story will be focused on Joe Shreibvogel, the adventures that led him to become Joe Exotic, and his struggle to keep his exotic animal park up and running.

Variety points out that this will be the first regular TV series role for Nicolas Cage, after a long list of successful film roles, including Academy Award winning roles in “Leaving Las Vegas” and “Adaptation.”

This isn’t the first series to capitalize on the success of Tiger King. Last month, another series was announced, starring Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin. That series will air on NBC and USA, along with streaming on Peacock.
