Today Amazon announced that they are raising the price of prime from $99 a year to $119. This is the first price hike on Prime’s yearly rate since 2014.

The price hike will take effect on June 16th 2018. Prime members will see their price go up on their next renewal after June 16th 2018.

Asked during the call why Amazon was raising rates now, Olsavsky responded, “It’s really nothing more than looking at the state of the program… and the benefit it provides.” He added, “There’s all kinds of new features we’ve added to the program. It’s much different than it was in 2014.”

Monthly Prime plans will remain unchanged.

Correction: Prime is going up to $119.
