Today The Information reported that their sources told them that Amazon is working to build a free app for the Fire TV to stream news updates from TV networks. According to reports Amazon has already talked to several news organizations about offering their content through its new app.

The market for free ad-supported news has become a popular one recently. CBS, NBC, ABC, Cheddar, Yahoo News, and more are all already offering a free ad-news service or have announced plans to launch one this year. Other groups including NewsNet, Sinclair, NewsOn, and more have been busy working on apps that bring news from multiple sources to a single place.

The Information recently has had a great track record for accurately predicting what Amazon is up to. This move into news would lineup well with Amazon’s recent launch of a free add supported streaming service from IMDb. For companies like CBS, NBC, and ABC this gives them one more source to bring their free ad-supported news services to more people.

For now, we don’t know when or if this services will launch. All we know is that Amazon is reportedly in talks to launch an ad-supported service.
