Earlier this month we learned that Amazon Prime Video was coming to Android TV. At the time we didn’t know when but now in an interview with TechHive Google says that will happen this summer.

Amazon’s Prime Video app has been on some Android TV but this came from special deals not with Google but with Android TV makers like Nvidia and Sony. This left some Android TV devices with Amazon Prime Video and some without the service. Now later this year all Android TV device will have an Amazon Prime Video app.

Back when this deal was first announced Amazon said: “We’re excited to bring the Prime Video app to Chromecast and Android TV devices, and to give our customers convenient access to the shows and movies they love,” said Andrew Bennett, Head of Worldwide Business Development for Prime Video. “Whether watching the latest season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, catching teams go head-to-head on Thursday Night Football or renting a new-release movie, customers will have even more ways to stream what they want, whenever they want, no matter where they are.”

Amazon is the second largest streaming services in the United States. Not having an official Amazon Prime Video app on Android TV has been listed as one of the reasons for Android TV to be trailing Roku, Fire TV, and the Apple TV. Now with an official Amazon Prime Video app Android TV can better stand out next to Roku and the Fire TV.

We also learned that Google is working on new hardware for Android TV. According to Google, they will be having some announcements on new Android TV hardware in the coming weeks. For now, we will have to wait and see what they announce.
