Amazon’s 2018 Prime Day got off to a rocky start with website issues as a flood of buyers tried to get in on some good deals. Yet the website came back up after a few hours and Amazon announced Prime Day 2018 was their best Prime Day ever with over 100 million products sold.
“Prime Day offers us a unique opportunity to thank Prime members with our best deals,” said Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer, Amazon. “Extending Prime Day to a day and a half this year allowed us to further reward members with unbeatable deals, access to exclusive new products and unforgettable experiences that highlight the many benefits of a Prime membership. All of this was made possible because of our many valued associates – the global team that continues to make Prime Day bigger and better.”
According to Amazon, the number one item purchased during Prime Day was the Fire TV and that shouldn’t be a surprise as Amazon has them on sale for as little as $19.99. What is a surprise is that Amazon sold over 1 million during Prime Day making it the best day ever for the Fire TV.
This will likely help Amazon cement their spot as the second most popular streaming player in the United States just behind Roku and well ahead of the Apple TV. A surprising accomplishment considering the Fire TV is one of the newest line of streaming players on the market.
There are also reports according to AFTVnews that other stores plan to match Amazon’s Prime Day pricing on the Fire TV for a single day in August. Details are still thin, but we will post updates as we learn more.
