This new division will make multiple series for Amazon featuring multicultural characters and storytelling for Amazon Prime Video.

Grupo Televisa is a Mexican multimedia company and is the largest in Central America as well as in all of the Spanish-speaking world. Most of their programming is aired in the United States in partnership with Univision. Now it seems that they want to expand and use Amazon as a way to do that.

Groupo Televisa reservices the right to eventually bring the content to free and cable network in Mexico as well as the United States through Univision.

Amazon likely sees this as a way to reach a new audience in the United States and expand their reach into Central America.  The content will be produced in Los Angeles and Mexico City. It is also reported that Amazon is looking for a larger facility in Brazil according to Reuters.

Right now Amazon joins a growing list of streaming services looking for ways to expand their appeal to new markets around the world. Amazon is betting that a deal with Groupo Televisa will help them expand through the Americas.
