Back in December 2019, it was reported that the Yankees would be the first MLB team to partner with Amazon to stream games live. Amazon Prime Video made the deal with YES Network to begin airing games during the 2020 season.
The news was confirmed in March, with the first Yankees game on Prime Video set to air on April 17 for Prime members in New York state, northeast Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and central New Jersey. Coronavirus put a wrench in that plan, causing a delay to the start of the MLB season.
In light of the shortened season and all around strange new circumstances, YES Network made the decision to show games on its own channel, which will prevent them from being able to be streamed on Amazon.
“Given the unique circumstances surrounding this season, YES Network will televise all New York Yankees games not airing on the national networks,” Amazon told Bloomberg. “We’ll evaluate our plans at the conclusion of this season.”
Yankees fans can stream in-market games on YES Network on Hulu with Live or AT&T TV Now’s Max package. The MLB season is now underway, with the Yankees beating the Washington Nationals 4-1 Thursday, in a game that aired nationally on ESPN with a reported 4 million viewers.
