If you’re wondering why you haven’t heard much about Amazon Video’s Lord Of The Rings series, it’s because it hasn’t even started filming yet. But even before the release of season one, the show has already been renewed for season two.

Like the movies, the Lord Of The Rings series will be shot on location in New Zealand. The storyline will be set prior to The Fellowship of The Ring, the first of J.R.R. Tolkiens trilogy.  The cast has not yet been confirmed, neither has the premiere date.

The show is said to be a big-budget production and will take a few month’s hiatus from shooting after the first couple of episodes. Now that we know there’s a definite season 2, this is likely so production can simultaneously shoot footage for the second season, meaning less wait between release dates. Taking time to film and edit the first few episodes and footage also helps consolidate costs, especially for shows shooting on location with lots of CGI additions.
