AMC Renews The Walking Dead

Today AMC announced that they have renewed The Walking Dead for a 9th season. The 9th season should premiere in late 2018 according to showrunner Scott M. Gimple.

“This is an enormously important day for the entire ‘The Walking Dead’ television universe. We are proud to acknowledge Angela’s significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction.  Further, with gratitude and admiration, we also recognize Scott’s broad impact on, and leadership of, the content that fuels our TWD universe. Together, we will dream bigger and more broadly than ever before,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios.  “I know I speak for Angela, Scott and everyone at AMC when I say thanks most of all to the fans and the many talented people who have helped AMC play ‘Dead.’”

“‘The Walking Dead’ is a special show which started in an entirely different era of TV, and continues, in this new era, to confidently take chances to tell compelling stories that excite audiences and make them deeply connect with its characters, adapting Robert Kirkman’s brilliant comic book,” Gimple said. “As the show closes in on its tenth year, I’m honored to keep working with the talented, dedicated people behind and in front of the camera to make it all it can be, while expanding the world of ‘The Walking Dead’ with new narratives like ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ and a whole host of truly cool stories ahead. Angela is a big part of the heart and soul of ‘The Walking Dead,’ and I’m thrilled to help facilitate her vision of the show’s next era.”

“I am beyond thrilled to be stepping into this new role with ‘The Walking Dead.’ Working on this series and having the opportunity to adapt Robert Kirkman’s amazing comic has been a fangirl dream come true for me,” said Kang. “I’m excited to continue working with Scott and the wonderfully supportive folks at AMC, and can’t wait to share the next chapter of the story with our fans next fall.”

From the “duhhhhhh” department 😉 Of course, it’s being renewed…I guess they only renew for a season at a time to give the false impression that maybe the story finishes up etc. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love TWD, and hope it doesn’t end for several more years, providing it continues to be the quality that is has been.

On another note…I got the feeling that I walked in on the middle of an article.. Who is Angela? And then, who the hell is Kang? Poorly put together and/or copied from another source.

      She’s the new show runner.

Thanks. I kinda figured that must be the case, but it never really said who she was, what her last name is, etc etc.

          Yes, very ambiguous.

How is this related in any way to cord cutting?

not all services carry amc, twd is the biggest draw to amc. so, if twd is not renewed, then amc becomes less of a “deal breaker”.

another is nfl network…dtv now not having it, is why i went sling. psvue lost me, when i had to pay for locals…. and i still do not even have one of them in my area.

      • Charles

True, but the story is about AMC renewing The Walking Dead not the fact that AMC is not on every carrier

        • John Burgess

          whatever…

Just out of curiosity (because I haven’t had it in awhile)…

What does NFL network have that is such a draw? They don’t have exclusive games anymore, do they?

        • John Burgess

early and up to date news on players (mainly), for me play dynasty fantasy football and espn has been a political tool for years…so, i never watch it. a lot of people do not espn anymore. so, nfl network has become more popular

That’s good news…anyways, TNT decided to all of sudden blackout a basketball game in my area and that has never happened before. Like the Lakers game is my home team and I’m in the home region and that normally doesn’t happen for national game and all of sudden I get a popped up message that TNTHD is blacking out in my area and I think that’s illegal. Either it’s TNT streaming problem or that DirecTV Now is bullshitting. I’m starting to get frustrated with them.
