AMC now has the rights to the novels of the Borne universe by Jeff VanderMeer. The studio will potentially be developing a series based on the novel series which includes 2017’s Borne and follow ups The Strange Bird and Dead Astronauts.

The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic city where a woman named Rachel scavenges the area for genetically engineered organisms, eventually finding a creature she calls Borne.

“I’m so excited about this partnership and working with AMC on the Borne universe,” VanderMeer said. “I’ve had such productive, energizing, and creative conversations with the wonderful folks involved and look forward to the road ahead.”

The universe created by VanderMeer has the potential to be the perfect setting for a TV series.

“The Borne Universe is a totally unique piece of IP and Jeff has created a vivid postapocalyptic world with enormous opportunity for a visual medium like television,” said Ben Davis, executive vice president of programming for AMC Studios.

Borne was named one of the “Best Books of 2017” and the newest novel Dead Astronauts has been called one of the best books of the year.
