Disney has announced a new animated short Once Upon a Snowman that will reveal the origins of everyone’s favorite snowman Olaf. The story will fill in the blanks of what happened to Olaf between the time Elsa created him and when Kristoff and Anna discovered him in the forest. The short is set to debut on Disney+ October 23, 2020.

“This is an idea that started to form when I was an animator on the first Frozen,” said director Trent Correy.”  “Dan Abraham and I are so grateful and excited to have had the opportunity to direct this short, working with our incredible colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios.”

“Josh Gad gives one of the great animated voice performances as Olaf through the ‘Frozen’ films,” said director Dan Abraham. “To have the opportunity to work with him in the recording booth was such a privilege and career highlight.”

This is the second Frozen spinoff centered around Olaf to come to Disney+. Earlier this spring, the streaming service launched the animated short series At Home With Olaf produced entirely from home during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
