NextGen TV continues to expand across the country, with four stations in Norfolk announcing that they’ve launched next-gen broadcast standard powered by ATSC 3.0.

The four stations include WAVY-TV (NBC), WVBT, and WNLO-CD (Fox), all of which are owned by Nexstar, and WTVZ-TV (MyNet), a Sinclair Broadcast Group station.

NextGen TV will be able to support new features incusing immersive audio and video, broadcasting to mobile devices, personalized viewing tools, and advanced emergency alerts providing rich media instead of simple text messages.

Each of the participating stations have agreed to ensure that current programming remains available to all viewers in the Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News and Virginia Beach area. Those using an antenna to receive the channels can do a rescan to continue receiving them.
