Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating people cancelling cable TV serviceLast week, AT&T, Comcast, and Spectrum reported their second quarter 2019 earnings. According to these reports, the three companies lost 1,311,000 million subscribers. This works out to over 14,000 subscribers every single day.

Here are how many subscribers each service lost:

  • DIRECTV NOW: 168,000
  • Spectrum: 141,000
  • Comcast: 224,000
  • DIRECTV & U-Verse TV: 778,000

Total: 1,311,000

This is just the start of the earning season. DISH will report its numbers later today. Even without DISH’s numbers cord cutting is on its way to setting a new record for growth in the second quarter of 2019.

This also shows how cord cutting has sped up in 2019. In 2018, cord cutting grew by 2.9 million and in 2017, cord cutting grew by 1.5 million American households.

Right now, cord cuttings growth in the second quarter of 2019 is almost guaranteed to be larger than in all of 2019 because it is growing by 14,000 subscribers every single day.

If this rate continues, cord cutting will grow by over 5 million over the next year. This is a dramatic jump—even without counting other companies like DISH and Cox—from the 2.9 million that cut the cord in 2018.

No matter how you look at it cord cutting is speeding up as some cable companies are seeing their losses double year over year.
