AT&T Re-Adds Roku Support for AT&T TV App, Ahead of HBO Max Launch

Roku Home ScreenBack in January, AT&T ended support for Roku devices as the contract between the two companies ended. At the time, AT&T said they hoped to return the app to the Roku platform soon.

This was the message from AT&T at the time: Heads up: Starting January 1, 2020, you won’t be able to add the AT&T TV channel to your Roku device. Already have AT&T TV on your Roku device? You can keep using it as long as you don’t delete the app. We’re actively working on a new agreement with Roku and hope to resolve this soon.

When the decision was made to remove Roku support, the AT&T TV app was the home of the streaming service AT&T TV NOW. Later that month, as AT&T prepared to launch AT&T TV nationwide, support for Roku devices was still not available.

Now, the AT&T TV app is back in the Roku Channel Store.

The update comes just a week before the launch of AT&T’s new streaming service, HBO Max. Roku recently sent out a statement saying that it had not yet made a deal with AT&T to distribute HBO Max at launch.

With the return of the AT&T TV app to the Channel Store, it’s possible that AT&T and Roku could be working out a distribution deal to make HBO Max available as a standalone app for Roku users as well.
