Last year, AT&T announced the addition of AT&T TV, a new premium video service, to their TV products. Now, after months of trials in a handful of markets, AT&T TV is available nationwide as an all-in-one entertainment solution. Originally the service was going to go live on March 2nd but it looks like AT&T has opened up subscriptions a day early. Look for the official announcement tomorrow.
“Our customers told us what they want from their TV service and we built AT&T TV around that,” said Thaddeus Arroyo, CEO of AT&T Consumer. “AT&T TV is live TV made easy and when you add AT&T TV to our amazing 1 gigabit AT&T Internet you can’t go wrong.”
AT&T TV starts at $49.99/month for 12 months, plus taxes and fees. (Typically it will cost $59.99 but is on sale through June.) This price is available with a 24-month contract. Prices go up in the second year too as much as $130 a month.
You need an AT&T TV device and the voice remote to set up AT&T TV. Connect the HDMI cable to the TV, plug in the device, and use the remote to follow the on-screen prompts to activate service.
While this service comes with a cable-like contract and device, it streams content. Stream shows and movies on smartphones, tablets, and web browsers with the AT&T TV app. AT&T TV is 4K enabled and comes with 500 hours of DVR storage.
