AT&T Will Sell Crunchyroll to Sony’s Funimation

Sony and AT&T announced today that AT&T will sell its anime streaming service Crunchyroll to Sony-owned Funimation. We reported that the deal was nearing a close in October, with AT&T asking $1.5 billion for the service. Today, Funimation purchased the service for a price of $1.175 billion.

Crunchyroll has over 3 million paid subscribers as of July of this year, and AT&T reports that there are now 90 million registered users. Since launching in 2006, Crunchyroll has expanded to over 200 countries, with some series simulcast in 8 languages.
