We have all seen the crazy good offers for TV services. The catch is there are often hidden fees and taxes included with these services and DIRECTV is no different.
DIRECTV comes with 11 different fees that can jump out and surprise you. That does not even include the taxes that will be added to your bill.
Here is a quick break down of the 11 different fees that you will find on your DIRECTV bill:
Activation Fee
AT&T is so excited to have you as a customer that they will charge you $19.95 for the privilege of activating the service you are paying every month for.
DVR Fee
DIRECTV charges $6 a month to use their DVR service. This is not for the DVR box but just to use the DVR service.
Equipment Lease Fee
With DIRECTV the first set-top box is free but each additional box costs $5 a month.
HD Access Fee
Want to watch your show in HD? That will cost $10 a month.
Non-Activation Fee
AT&T now charges you $150 per receiver if you do not activate it within 30 days of installation. Recently we have been hearing how people have been taking bundles that may include more receivers than they need. They hoped if they didn’t activate it, they wouldn’t have to pay a monthly fee. Now it seems that AT&T has caught on and is charging $150 per device.
Deactivation Fee
If you decide you no longer want your DIRECTV service or it is turned off for non-payment AT&T will charge you a $15 Deactivation Fee
Regional Sports Fee
AT&T charges up to $8.49 a month for its Regional Sports Fee. This is not a fee you can remove from your bill if your package includes regional sports networks.
Pay by Phone Fee
If you pay using one of AT&T’s automated systems on the phone or online there is no fee to pay your DIRECTV bill. If you talk to a customer service agent there is a “convenience fee,” but we could not find out exactly how much that fee is.
Federal Cost Recovery Charge
This is a fee charged to recover fees paid to the FCC.
Unreturned Equipment Fee
If you fail to return DIRECTV equipment you will be charged anywhere from $55 to $470 for each receiver not returned.
Cancellation Fee
If you cancel before your contract is up you will be charged a prorated fee not to exceed $480.
