I say, So what. I feel they have become very greedy. $5 all access? Oh I know, lets take an iconic loved series and only put it on paid access to watch. Hell no! Thats pure greed! When is enough, enough? $5 to them, $9 to netflix, $20-30 to streaming service, $5 to other services here and there. Hey look, your total bill can be more than you were paying when you actually had cable. Its just $5. and then its another and another and another and so on.
Well cbs, here is my guarantee to you. As a 40+ year fan of star trek and liking them all. I will not watch st: discovery. Its a shame that YOU caused this. A life long star trek fan thats more excited over Seth Macfarlanes new Orville series than the release of a new star trek series. I say HELL NO! You will single handedly destroy the new star trek series with this stupid ass ploy for greed.

lol. All star trek fans should be outraged by this move that cbs is trying to pull. And from what I have seen on youtube and other forums, there are many. Its actually a big discussion that cbs is actually trying to kill off st:discovery by doing this so they can put out a different star trek show. Who knows if its true or not, all I know is they lost me. Maybe its worth it to some to get a streaming version of their local network cause they cant get a signal. Thats cool if they want to charge $5 for that. Just dont take iconic shows that have always been free and try to put them behind a pay wall. It usually doesnt work out to well. Customer backlash can be a bitch.

Well that is the beautiful thing about cord cutting. No one is forcing you to do any of it. You don’t want to watch, then don’t watch. The important thing is you get to pick. I’m a huge Star Trek fan too. Is it annoying I have to sign up for one more service? Yes, but I am going to do it because the show means that much to me. I’ll cancel when it is over. But again, that is my choice.

I dont think I ever said people couldnt do it. Its about greed and taking a stand against that greed. Its not like I cant afford cable/sat. I dropped that because I got tired of paying such high prices and yet our shows get shorter and shorter and the commercials get longer and longer and our prices keep going higher and higher. So in essence, we are rewarding the industry for shoving MORE commercials down our throats while we gladly accept that our shows lose more show time to commercials. You realize a 30 minute show can be as little as 17 minutes of content with the remaining 13 minutes are ads trying to sell you stuff? An hour show is now only 40 minutes. See my point here? Its not about if you can afford it. Its about stopping this greed and give us our quality programming back.

The “boutique” network CBS, has nothing to watch except for Big Bang so why put this show behind a paywall? It’s going to die there.

      Evan September 11, 2017 at 12:29 pm #

Or Young Sheldon. Yep it’s a one show network. I never watch NBC either. Watching less ABC. Always watch Fox.

I am a huge fan of big bang theory. Even in its start of its 11th year and we all have to admit it has been slipping the last couple seasons, what do you think would be the outrage of people if they put it behind that $5 paywall? The backlash would be insane and they know it but again, its perfectly fine to destroy a beloved franchise that is star trek.

Well digital locals will be better quality than antennas can provide shortly. Antennas are largely obsolete 20th century technology. The cloud and big data will replace it. We need 5G home internet to allow mobile phone companies to directly compete with Xfinity and introduce competition into the market. $70 for basic HD 25MBps internet is too expensive. We are the country that invented the internet and we have the slowest internet in the world. The problem is government picking winners and losers. We should have national internet brands to choose from. Localized marketing is very last millenium. We are a global economy now. It makes sense for energy utilities to be locally based but not internet. All national brands have access to the airspace.

great post. you convinced me to go with cbs all-access. I am going to cancel tivo tonight and even with the two other shows I will need to by on iTunes from pbs and fox, I am money ahead. Also, I have had reception issues with PBS OTA which will end.

About CBS all access, I consider 6$ quite reasonable.

CBS has always embraced cord-cutting, with CBS All Access. They have also been among the first ones to sign deals with most live-streaming services including PS Vue, YouTube TV and Hulu. DirecTV Now was the only exception. Sling doesn’t count since they don’t care much about broadcast networks.
