Over the last year, CBS has been doubling down on streaming with deals to bring their channels to streaming services and now a new focus on movies streaming online.
Last week Variety reported that CBS is folding its Films Division into their larger Entertainment Group. This move will happen over the course of 2019 and will shift the focus from making movies for theaters to making movies for streaming.
Now that does not mean CBS will walk away from theaters, but it seems clear CBS wants to make streaming their focus.
Over the last few years CBS All Access has become an increasingly big part of CBS’s focus. With new Star Trek programming coming to CBS All Access and not the traditional CBS networks. Now it looks like movies will likely become a bigger focus of CBS All Access.
Don’t look for this to happen overnight. From the reports, these efforts are just now starting and it will likely take some time before CBS All Access gets the majority of future CBS Films.
