CBS Plans to Expand CBS All Access to Canada & Australia

We have known for some time that CBS was looking to expand their subscription streaming service CBS All Access to Canada. Now they also want to move into other parts of the world including Australia.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, CBS also plans to launch six or seven new original programs in the next 12 months. CBS COO Joseph Ianniello at the Deutsche Bank Media & Telecom Conference on Tuesday said that CBS will be doubling down on originals.

Now it looks like CBS wants to expand outside of the United States. During the talk Ianniello said that Canada and Australia would be the first markets for CBS All Access expansion. “Wherever Netflix is, I don’t see why we won’t be there,” Ianniello said, referring to CBS All Access’ international ambitions.

For CBS this move makes sense. Currently they sell rights to their content to other markets. Now with streaming CBS will be able to keep all the revenue from their content in that market rather than getting a small part of it and selling the rights to a third-party company.

We are likely still far from the point where you can access CBS as you live overseas but that day is coming.
