Male hand holding TV remote control.Hate having to manually fast forward through commercials? Now the team behind the Channels DVR software is testing an automatic commercial skipping feature on DVR recordings.

Channels is a software app that uses tuners like the HDHomeRun to record programs from your antenna and stream them on devices like the Apple TV and Fire TV. Dave Zatz spotted a new experimental service that will automatically skip commercials.

This feature comes shortly after it was announced that Tablo DVRs will soon also be rolling out a similar feature. Later this spring Tablo DVRs will automatically skip commercials in DVR recordings. (Live TV will still show commercials.)

DISH has had this feature for some time now on their DVRs and fought off legal challenges. Now it looks like cord cutting DVR manufacturers are rushing to add the feature to try and stand out in a very crowded field.

How important is commercial skipping for you? Would you pick a DVR that had it over one that didn’t? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
