Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV service

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV service2017 was an amazing year for cord cutting and Cord Cutters News. I know I say this often but if you had told me a year ago that Cord Cutters News would be as big as it is today I would have never believed you.

Cord Cutters News has millions of readers and over 100,000 social media followers. This is crazy growth compared to where we where just a few months ago. To top that off, this week we hit our goal of 20,000 YouTube subscribers.

As I sit here in our new offices (still unfinished—somehow the new desk I ordered for my office ended up in Utah not Texas), I wanted to give you an update on Cord Cutters News and a look forward to what will be happening in 2018.

So why do I do this?

I have been asked in the past why I put so much work into Cord Cutters News. Why have I gone over three years without missing a day of posting? I do it for you, the reader.

I think people often forget how much an extra $1,000 or $2,000 a year can be to a family on a tight budget. I love hearing stories from our readers about how we have helped them save money. Saving $100 a month may not seem like much, but over the next 10 years that can add up to an extra $12,000.

So here is to hoping we can help even more people save money in 2018.

A Look Back at 2017

In 2017, Cord Cutters News published more than 1,500 new cord cutting news stories on the site. We also held 50 live cord cutting Q&As and started a new weekly cord cutting show called “Cord Cutting This Week,” which gives us an opportunity to share our opinions on the biggest cord cutting stories from the previous week.

We grew from about 35,000 to more than 100,000 social media followers and 20,000 YouTube subscribers. In viewership we saw overall growth of over 250%.

We debated the benefits of cord cutting with USA Today, talked all things cord cutting with iHeart Media, and have been an expert source for countless news groups.

So why post all of this? It’s not to brag but to say thank you. One of the main ways people learned about Cord Cutters News has been you, the reader, telling people about us. I am so very thankful for your support in helping us grow.

A Look Forward to 2018

2017 was a great year! In 2018, we want to help even more people become cord cutters. So here is a quick look at what we plan to do to offer even better cord cutting coverage:

More Travel

In 2017, I traveled all over the United States going to conventions and having one-on-one meetings. This year I plan to do even more.

The travel starts next weekend as I fly to CES (The Consumer Electronic Show) for a full week of meetings with some of the biggest names in cord cutting. As 2018 continues we already have plans to travel to several other conferences and meet with some interesting names in the world of cord cutting.

Sometimes you just need to be there to offer the best coverage, and we plan to be everywhere to give you the best coverage of all things cord cutting.

New Staff

This one I cannot talk a lot about, but look for some new staffing announcements sometime in January if everything comes together. Yet we don’t plan to stop there! If the site keeps growing look for us to add a few big names in 2018.

More YouTube Content

In 2018, we plan to make YouTube a main focus of the site. We have learned that some people prefer reading and others like to watch their news and reviews. So we plan to do both in 2018. To help with this we are putting the finishing touches on a new review lab/studio that is three times larger than our old one.

At some point in late January 2018, we plan to a start on some new cord cutting YouTube shows.

This Is Just the Start…

I have even more planned for 2018, but I am not ready to make them public yet. Let’s just say I plan to make sure Cord Cutters News continues to be the best resource for all things cord cutting through 2018. To do this, we plan to keep growing by offering more coverage and better resources for our readers.
