Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV service

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV serviceAs we are about to enjoy the unofficial end of summer here in the United States with Labor Day tomorrow, I want to take a moment and say thank you.

August was a record-setting month for Cord Cutters News. Never before have we seen growth like this. Our site is over three times larger than a year ago. Our YouTube Channel had its best month ever, and our social media is seeing crazy growth.

When I started Cord Cutters News, it was just a hobby to let people know my thoughts. Now we have grown from a hobby into a full-time job not only for myself but others as we do our best to cover the world of cord cutting. This is not always easy as cord cutting is growing rapidly and changing every minute, but we will continue to do our best and have big plans to improve the site.

None of this would have been possible without the huge support we have seen from our readers. Our goal has been to help people save money and still watch what they enjoy. I never dreamed Cord Cutters News would grow into a site with millions of readers every month. I never dreamed that I would be able to give someone a job much less have a growing team of four employees and freelancers. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this a reality.

New Things Coming to Cord Cutters News

New Employees

To handle this fast growth, we added Jess to our team as our first full-time reporter and Becca as an office manager who takes care of so many back-end things like the newsletter, social media, and phones.

Now we are adding a fourth full-time employee who will start next week. With this new hire we hope to not only offer more coverage but also improve the quality of our coverage. We have been fortunate to hire someone very experienced in journalism and writing for TV and radio. Look for more news on this hire in a week or so.

This is just the start of our plans to help address the growth in cord cutting.

YouTube Channel Update

About a year ago, we made YouTube a focus of Cord Cutters News. Since that change, we have more than doubled the number of subscribers and our views have quadrupled on YouTube.

Now we are going to continue to expand our YouTube Channel with more videos and content. Jess has joined the YouTube team to fill in when I will be out of town or unavailable and will help with new content like the podcast.

Now we will be expanding our YouTube Channel with more videos. One of the main goals is to improve the quality of videos, but that won’t happen overnight.

My goal with everything we do, including our YouTube Channel, is to be better today than we were yesterday. Look for higher quality YouTube Channel content that is more consistent with our new video schedule.

A New Office

In order to do all of this—from hiring more staff to improving our YouTube Channel—we need a larger office. Currently, the office we are renting is too small to add additional staff and, more importantly, too small to expand our studio for YouTube videos.

Earlier this year we thought we had the perfect office space to expand into, but at the last minute that fell apart as the sellers decided to take a different offer. Since then we have struggled to find a good fit as office space is very limited in the area, at least in the size we need. (We want something bigger than a 1,000 but smaller than 5,000. That seems to be unusual office size in this area.)

Our lease is coming to an end later this year. We are now looking into other options—from building to working with some new developments—to secure enough space that would give us the office space and the studio space we need to expand. We are also considering renting some other suites in our current building to expand our YouTube studio.

For now, we are carefully considering our options, praying, and looking at all possibilities. Our goal is to find an option that would help us with our growth. Any positive thoughts or prayers would be appreciated as we move through the difficulties that come with managing growth.

Right now, we are aggressively working to constantly get better each and every day. We thank everyone for your support as you make this all possible.

Important Rule Update

One thing we are going to continue to work on is being more aggressive in enforcing our code of conduct. With millions of readers on the site, we all need to make sure to be polite to each other. In a time when most sites are getting rid of comments on their stories, we plan to keep them but will be more aggressively enforcing our Code of Conduct. So, please take a moment and read our Code of Conduct HERE. This is to ensure that we can help all and don’t scare away anyone looking for help. Our goal with our code of conduct rules is to make sure we are offering a welcoming environment for all.

Again, thank you for your support. Cord Cutters News is nothing without you, the reader and viewer, who help Cord Cutters News grow far larger than I could have ever dreamed.
