Sports are often listed as one of the main reasons people keep cable TV. In Canada, this was even more true because of the limited options to stream live TV without a long-term cable TV subscription. Now that is all changing as TSN and RDS are launching standalone subscription sports streaming services.
TSN and RDS are two of the largest sports networks in Canada, and they just announced a new standalone streaming service. Now you won’t need to have cable TV to watch them live.
“Providing choice and variety has been a driving force behind our programming strategy, and we know Canadian sports fans want options in terms of how they watch and consume our content,” said Stewart Johnston, president, Media Sales, Marketing, at TSN. “We’re excited to introduce TSN Direct to sports fans nationwide, allowing them access to their favourite sports and our extensive championship events through a monthly digital subscription.”
“With RDS Direct, we are offering consumers a new way to access the largest portfolio of French-language sports properties in the world,” said Gerry Frappier, president, French Television at RDS. “It’s more important than ever to provide choice and reach fans wherever they are, and we’re pleased to be the first to offer a subscription-based service in French for sports fans in Québec.”
TSN Direct and RDS Direct together will cost $24.99 a month (or about $19.27 USD) with no contract. While that may sound expensive to US subscribers in Canada this is not a bad deal compared to other options.
Not only will it give Canadians access to the Canadian Football League but also they will have access to the 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA™. All 64 matches air live and on demand beginning Thursday, June 14 on TSN and RDS platforms.
