Over the weekend, WarnerMedia hosted DC FanDome, bringing DC Comics fans together virtually to check out upcoming films, TV shows, games, and more. WarnerMedia says that the event generated 22 million views from 220 countries around the world during the 24 hour free event.

“We had a couple of mission things in mind as we built it that were our North Stars that we never wavered from,” Blair Rich, President of worldwide marketing at Warner Bros. told The Wrap in an interview about the event. “Number one, it had to be for the fans, by the fans, about the fans, and be completely fan-centric, and anything that wavered from that was not allowed. We wanted it to be accessible. That’s why it was free. It was a global event translated into nine languages and we wanted it to feel like a major moment.”

Since premiering at FanDome, trailers for DC games, movies, and TV shows like Wonder Woman 1984 and The Snyder Cut of Justice League have gained over 150 million additional views on YouTube and Twitter.

A second event, DC FanDome: Exploring the Multiverse is coming up in September. While the follow up isn’t expected to bring in quite as many viewers as Saturday’s DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes event, the organization, production value, and overall success of the first day are a good sign that DC knows what they’re doing when it comes to keeping fans happy in this strange new fully virtual environment.
