DIRECTV NOW Is Adding Even More Locals

For the third time this week DIRECTV NOW has added more locals. Earlier this week DIRECTV NOW added a ton of Sinclair-owned locals and now it looks like Nexstar is getting more locals.

Yesterday several readers contacted Cord Cutters News to notify us that DIRECTV NOW has added WFLA-TV, a Nexstar-owned NBC affiliate in Tampa, Florida. NBC WOAI in San Antonio a Sinclair owned NBC affiliate was also added.

This lines up well with news from Sinclair and Nexstar, two of the largest affiliate owners that announced deals with several live TV streaming services late last year. “Nexstar now has reached mutually satisfactory agreements with three of the big four networks for participation in OTT services,” said CEO Perry Sook in a statement.

Although that deal was announced last year, it takes time to connect a station to a service like DIRECTV NOW. The feed is different than the one used for DIRECTV, and it requires equipment installation and a secure connection to prevent piracy.

Slowly DIRECTV NOW, Hulu, PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV, fuboTV, and other services are adding more locals. Look for this to continue in the weeks and months to come.
